At The Silver Cup, we are big believers in embracing a sustainable approach to our cooking style. Our menus celebrate the finest seasonal British produce and local ingredients, prepared with originality, respect and a touch of care.
We pride ourselves on working with a dedicated team of suppliers to source the best British produce, enabling us to deliver the finest ingredient cooking. We aim to be a contemporary public house with a casual neighbourhood restaurant serving British classics with a modern touch accessible to everyone in our community.
In May, we introduced a brand-new à la carte menu, available for lunch and dinner, from Wednesday evening through to Saturday evening, in both the dining room and bar.
Our brand-new menu brings together the best of what we do: exciting new dishes alongside much-loved favourites, all crafted with the exceptional quality and
creativity you’ve come to expect from The Silver Cup.
We also introduced a new Bar & Garden Snack Menu, available during food service hours, for guests who want to call in for drinks, with walk-ins very welcome.
Rest assured - our Sunday lunch roasts are here to stay, and Steak Night will continue on the last Wednesday of every month.
STEAK NIGHT
We take pride in offering more than just your average steak night. Every last Wednesday of the month, we invite you to indulge in our renowned steak experience, where we serve up generous sharing steaks for two butchered in-house from top-quality, ethically reared beef. Our steak nights feature succulent cuts accompanied by beef fat hollandaise, hand-cut chips, pickled shallots, and baby gem salad.
What sets our steak nights apart is our unwavering commitment to sustainability in every aspect of our cooking. Matthew and our team have fostered long-term
relationships with local suppliers, guiding them in selecting the finest produce at markets to consistently deliver top-notch quality.
All our steaks are locally sourced from East Anglia and aged for 28 days to tenderise the meat and intensify the flavour. For these special evenings, we source large joints from a single cow, ensuring minimal waste and a reduced carbon footprint.
We take pride in our in-house butchery, hand-cutting each steak to a generous 900g- 1kg weight. While this limits the variety of steaks we offer, such as T-bone or Fillet, it aligns with our sustainable ethos and minimises environmental impact.
Please note that due to our commitment to sustainability, we cannot always guarantee the full range of premium steaks. However, we believe this approach contributes to a more environmentally friendly world for us all.

ABOUT
Established in 1838, The Silver Cup began life as a traditional Victorian public house, nestled at the end of Harpenden’s historic racecourse on the Common. True to its name, the winning jockey was once awarded a silver cup - a tradition that inspired our distinctive identity.
To our knowledge, we’re the only pub in the country proudly bearing the name The Silver Cup.
In the spring of 2020, during the height of the first Coronavirus lockdown, a new chapter began. The lease was taken on and the forced closure provided the opportunity to breathe new life into the building. The result is a beautifully refurbished, contemporary dining space that honours its past while looking firmly to the future.
Today, The Silver Cup is proudly run by siblings Matthew and Olivia - Harpenden locals with a shared passion for great food, quality drinks, and heartfelt hospitality.
Together, they’ve returned to their hometown to create a welcoming space where locals and visitors alike can
enjoy elevated British dining in relaxed, stylish surroundings.

Parking: We have very limited parking spaces on site, we recommend trying the Baa Lambs Car Park (has restrictions) or a short walk up the road, there is free parking just past Rothampstead Experimental centre.
